Privacy Policy
Effective 1 October 2026
This policy explains how Hannes Jung ("Developer", "we") handles data when you use Aloft ("App"), the trip planner for iPhone and iPad. The short version: we don't collect your data, we run no servers that receive it, and the App contains no analytics, tracking or advertising.
No account, no collection
Aloft has no sign-up. The Developer does not collect, receive, store or share personal data within the meaning of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and has no access to the trips, places, bookings or photos you add.
Your trips: on your device and in your iCloud
Trips, stops, places, stays, bookings and notes are stored on your device with Apple's Core Data and synced to your other devices through your own private iCloud account (CloudKit). That data lives in your iCloud, not with us. Its handling by Apple is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Sharing a trip
When you share a trip, Aloft uses Apple's CloudKit sharing. The people you invite can see and edit that trip, and iCloud shows participants each other's names as set in their Apple Account. You decide who is invited and can stop sharing at any time; participants can leave a trip at any time. Shared trips are exchanged through Apple's iCloud only.
Cover photos from Pexels and Unsplash
To give trips, cities and sights a cover photo, the App searches the photo services Pexels and Unsplash for the name of the place (for example "Lisbon"). Only that search term is sent, with no information about you or your trip. As with any web request, these services receive your device's IP address. Photos you pick from your own library or camera are not sent to them.
Maps, places and directions
Maps, place search, travel times and directions are provided by Apple Maps (MapKit). Searches and map requests go to Apple and are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. Opening directions hands the destination to the Maps app.
Location
If you allow it, the App uses your location while you are using it, to show where you are on the map during a trip. Your location is not stored by the App and is never sent to the Developer.
Camera and photo library
With your permission, the App uses the camera to scan booking confirmations and lets you choose pictures from your library as covers. Pictures are processed on your device and stored only with your trip in iCloud.
Bookings inbox
Confirmations you share to Aloft (as text, PDF, image, ticket or calendar file) are read on your device, using Apple's on-device text recognition and, where available, Apple Intelligence's on-device model. They are not uploaded to any server. A booking stays private until you add it to a trip; once added to a shared trip, the people on that trip can see it.
Purchases
Aloft Pro is sold through the App Store. Apple processes the payment; the Developer receives no payment details or personal information, only Apple's confirmation on your device that a purchase is active.
Your choices
You can delete any trip or entry in the App at any time, remove the App's data from iCloud in your device's iCloud settings, or delete the App. Location, camera and photo access can be changed in the Settings app.
This policy covers the App only, not other websites or services linked from it.
Governing law
This policy and any dispute arising from the use of the App are governed by the laws of Austria. The parties will first try to resolve any dispute in good faith; failing that, the competent courts of Austria have jurisdiction.
